Political Revolution - Blockades close La Paz for a Month
They almost overthrew the government a week ago and the embassy was creating plans to evacuate if the need arose. All the roads out of La Paz and other major cities were blockaded by indigenous political groups and we were stuck in the city for about a month, without the ability to leave. Then the president resigned, creating mass chaos and demonstrations, and then the congress didn't accept his resignation and he decided to continue. Then a week later he said he was going to resign again, but this time in August and hold new elections, which are illegal under the present constitution, so they have formed a constitutional congress to write a new constitution, because no one really wants the next in line to take over as he is a conservative radical who was said he wants to unleash the military to crush any demonstrations that occur.
Ah, the thrills of living in a truly 3rd world country! Never a dull day.
