Working hard on Isla del Sol

The tough life on Lago Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is only a few hours away from La Paz, so I took advantage of the weekend and headed to Copacabana (no, not Rio, but a small pueblo on the lake). It is really small and has a very relaxing vibe. The tough part about a day in Copacabana is trying to decide which of the 30 different ways you want your trout cooked, and whether it is worth $4 instead of $3 for a different preparation. Yeah, life’s tough. The second day I went to Isla del Sol to see some Incan ruins and hike across the island. It is beautiful and sparse, very reminiscent of a Greek island, expect for the range of 5,000m snow-capped mountains in the distance. Electricity is a new thing to the island and so when it gets dark, it gets dark. But that just adds to the tranquility of the place. That’s a luxury we don’t often get.
